Potassium Iodide is a salt made up of the minerals iodine and potassium. Because Potassium Iodide contains nonradioactive iodine it is often used during emergencies resulting in radiation exposure to block radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid gland. The contamination of the thyroid gland with radioactive iodine is a major cause of damage from radiation exposure. Potassium Iodide saturates the thyroid with nonradioactive iodine for roughly 24 hours after use. It should be noted that Potassium Iodine is not a general radioprotective agent and only prevents the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine.

DIRECTION (1 serving = 2 tablets)

In emergency situations or when directed by health authorities, we recommend taking 130 mg (2 tablets) per day for individuals who are 18 years and older or weigh more than 150 lbs. Individuals who are younger than 18 years and weight less than 150 lbs should take 65 mg (1 tablet) per day.
Potassium Iodide is intended for short-term use only and daily use is not recommended for longer than 2 weeks.

WARNINGS

Consult your physician before use if you are pregnant or nursing, taking any other supplements/medications, or have any medical conditions (especially any thyroid conditions). Discontinue use and consult your doctor immediately if any adverse reactions occur. Do not use Potassium Iodide and operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. Do not exceed 4 tablets per day. For short-term use only, do not use for longer than two weeks.
